Haytor Victorian quarry

The whole process of mining in the Victorian times, from blasting to shipping, can be re-enacted as we visit the quarry at the foot of Haytor Rocks.

The class will take on the role of the quarry men and discover for themselves the various jobs that needed to be done to extract granite from the quarry and transport it down to Teignmouth docks.

Re-enacted Accidents, strict foremen and running for cover are all feature of this activity which brings the quarry alive with the sounds of work once more.
